OK so this is my new blog. I will hopefully be updating this often since I would like to start keeping a better track of my life activities. I have many goals in life, and at the top of my list right now is to get my Shodan from Harry Kendall Sensei at UC Davis. For those who don't know, that is my Judo Black Belt. I'm currently training in BJJ at Smash Gyms in Sunnyvale, but I plan to go to Davis when I can to train Judo with them as well until I can win a couple of tournaments. Time to get back in fighting shape! This has truly been one of my biggest regrets from college, not getting my Shodan. I am committed to getting it even though I am currently injured. Injuries are also why I didn't receive my Shodan to begin with. I was physically weak and got injured very often, especially before tournament season which meant I could not compete and advance my rank. I need to be much more careful when I train.
I think I may be too careless at workouts. I need to focus more on the moment and not let my mind wander. I train with some serious dudes, and that kind of mindset is what got me hurt in the first place. I've put on a bit of muscle since college so I am very happy for at least achieving that much. I enjoy Martial Arts, but I think I especially enjoy grappling arts like Judo, Wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I'm also currently studying to get certified as a Personal Trainer because I really want to be able to help people, specifically kids, get into better shape and lead healthier, more active lives. I hope that when I get my certification I will be able to accomplish that goal as well. One of my first jobs was heading a Japanese American summer school childcare with two other people. We cared for some very young children, and I really enjoyed my time doing that. After doing that for two summers in high school, I began giving private swim lessons since I had experience on my school swim team, as a lifeguard, and as a swim instructor at the Campbell Community Center. I think those years spent doing that is what makes me feel very passionate about helping young people achieve greatness.
My current job has me driving down to Monterey County pretty often. It's enjoyable enough, but the drive is beginning to take a toll on me. I basically work as a Media Consultant for small businesses. I help them figure out what types of media will get them the best exposure, as well as helping them develop marketing plans for their advertising. It's interesting work, but most importantly I think it's really getting me a lot of experience working with very diverse businesses. I'm definitely learning a lot.
Well I've written quite a bit, but as my first post I think that sums up a lot about what I'm currently working on and doing in my life. Here's hoping I actually make more posts on this blog tomorrow!
